Script in motion: Jan Michalski notes

Sep 4, 2025

In June, we had the opportunity to work at the Jan Michalski Foundation residency in Switzerland, near Lausanne. The quiet mountain setting gave us exactly what the development of Incident’s feature screenplay needs: time, calm, and focus.

The residency was not only about writing but also about meeting authors and translators from around the world. Conversations and evening readings helped us find the right tone for the scenes and better grasp the themes of freedom, truth, and moral responsibility that are central to Incident.

Our thanks go to the Jan Michalski Foundation for the inspiring environment: breathtaking architecture, a welcoming team, good food, and a carefully curated program. Unforgettable, too, was our trip to Valais in the footsteps of Rainer Maria Rilke — a meeting with a landscape that connects poetry, silence, and work with text.

The Jan Michalski residency is an important milestone in our development. We’re taking home a revised treatment, new scenes, and a clearer dramaturgical arc. In the coming months, we’ll build on this experience and continue with the script and preparations for the co-production phase.
